The International Photography Awards is fast becoming a prestigious endorsement of achievement for photographers throughout the world. Besides saluting the work of such luminaries as Gordon Parks, Arnold Newman and Silvia Plachy the organization is commited to discovering new and emerging talent.

Look for an exhibit of winning entries at Farmani Gallery of Contemporary Photography in Los Angeles.

"These images, in their silent dignity, tell the stories of Latinos, and in so doing, they tell the story of America. We present them to you con respecto y amor."

-Edward James Olmos

Americanos: Latino Life in the United States

This exhibition shows an extraordinary view of the breadth and variety of the Latino experience, encompassing the spectra of national origin, economic status, education, profession, religion and language. Through the medium of photography , Americanos explores the complexity of interconnected cultures and presents a fascinating self-portrait of Latino America.

The exhibition contains 120 photos made by thirty award winning photographers. It is the centerpiece of a multi-media program including a large format book, published by Little, Brown & Company, an HBO documentary, and a music CD released by Atlantic records in conjunction with Warner Music Latin America.

This is a project of Olmos Productions, organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and the Smithsonian Center for Latino Initiatives.
